THE NDNY-FCBA’S CLE Committee Presents “Effective Legal Writing”

A CLE seminar regarding the drafting and editing of succinct and persuasive memoranda of law, including the grammatical and stylistic mistakes most often made by practitioners, particularly when pressed for time. A seminar on how to write clear and compelling briefs, focusing on lawyers’ most common errors.

12:20 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Organization, Argument, Paragraphing, and Parallel Structure
1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thought-Stopping Gaps, Specific Nouns, Active Verbs, Periodic Sentences, and Misplaced and Dangling Modifiers
1:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Legalese, Figures of Speech, Active Voice, Positive Form, and Tense Changes
1:45 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. Editing and Punctuation
1:55 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Questions and Conclusion
“Effective Legal Writing” has been approved in accordance with the requirements of the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board for 2.0 credits in Skills. This program is appropriate for newly admitted and experienced attorneys. This is a single program. No partial credit will be awarded. This program is complementary to NDNY Federal Court Bar Association Members. The NDNY Federal Court Bar Association has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education in the State of New York.
This program is being offered virtually, via Zoom. The CLE Board has extended the deadline for the COVID-19 related format restriction changes applicable to newly admitted attorneys and the approval of all Accredited Providers to offer CLE programs through certain live simultaneous transmission formats through June 30, 2023
