For new and experienced attorneys alike, this program will examine how a civil action proceeds in the Northern District of New York. The speakers will represent perspectives from the plaintiff, defendant, and Court regarding various phases of the litigation process. Learn nuances about litigating your case in this district and the court’s expectations, and hear best practices relating to the first steps in developing a plaintiff’s case, responding to a complaint as a defendant, and the parties’ discovery obligations.

The program will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the James M. Hanley U.S. Federal Building and Courthouse, 100 South Clinton St., Ceremonial Courtroom, 3rd Floor, Syracuse, New York, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. The program is free to all NDNY-FBA members and to those-soon to be admitted members into the NDNY in 2015 that are recent graduates from law school and have applied for membership to the NDNY-FCBA. (Newly admitted attorneys are considered temporary members and the enrollment fee is waived for their admittance year).

Attorney Admission Ceremony

The Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association will sponsor an Admission Ceremony to admit attorneys to the bar of the Northern District of New York following the CLE program on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Courtroom, Third Floor, 100 South Clinton St., Syracuse, New York, Chief Judge Gary L. Sharpe presiding. The newly commissioned U.S. District Judge, Brenda K. Sannes, Northern District of New York, will be the Keynote Speaker. NDNY-FCBA President, Jeffrey Hurd will move the attorneys forward for admission. A reception for all newly admitted attorneys and their guests will immediately follow the Admission Ceremony. U.S. District New York Northern District of New York Admission Applications

Admission applications can be obtained from the Court’s Internet site, http://www.nynd.uscourts.gov or by contacting the Clerk’s Office at (315) 234- 8500. The deadline for receipt of the attorney admission packets is March 13, 2015. Please indicate on your cover letter which date and location you are applying to for admission. Attorneys seeking admission at the March 24, 2015 and March 25, 2015 Admission Ceremonies do not need to include in their admission packet the:

  • Proposed Order
  • Affidavit of Sponsor (the NDNY-FCBA President will act as the Movant for all applicants).

NDNY Federal Court Bar Association Free Membership for Recent Law School Graduates and Newly Admitted Attorneys

Please note: this is not the same as the NYND Court Bar Biennial Dues.

NDNY-Federal Court Bar Association Dues are waived for newly admitted attorneys and recent law school graduates who complete an enrollment application and certify that they will be applying for admission to the New York bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York as newly admitted attorneys. The applicants will become temporary members through December 31 following their law school graduation year.
