Message From The President

In 2003, a group of attorneys gathered to form the Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association. Our primary objective was then, and remains now, to enhance the practice of law in our Federal Courts within the Northern District.

The Association has a very active Board of Directors and 11 permanent standing committees that work closely with our federal judiciary, formally and informally, to address a myriad of issues that practitioners face in representing clients throughout the 32 counties and 33,000 square miles that comprise the Northern District. With extraordinary support from our judiciary, over the last five years the Association has offered numerous complimentary Continuing Legal Education programs, admission ceremonies, luncheons, receptions for incoming federal judges, and social events.

In 2008 alone, the Association has presented programs throughout the Northern District. In early March, an Admissions Ceremony and reception was held at Albany Law School. Later in March, a CLE program (with ethics credits) followed by an Admissions Ceremony and luncheon took place in Watertown. In April, the Association sponsored a CLE/Admissions Ceremony/luncheon in Syracuse. In May, Utica was the venue for a CLE program (with ethics credits) together with an Admissions Ceremony and luncheon. Additional CLE’s and luncheons are planned for Binghamton, Auburn, and Syracuse later in the year. Our Annual Meeting and Dinner will be held this year on December 4th at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool. The Annual Meeting will be preceded by a CLE program. All of the CLE programs and luncheons are available to the Association’s members at no charge. With annual dues of only $50.00, membership in the Association is one of the best buys in the legal world.

With the help of our Information and Technology Committee, the Association has developed this website to better communicate with members who practice within the District by providing an opportunity for both dialog and instruction.

Please take time to "surf" this new medium for fulfilling our mission. We are always open to suggestions, comments and discussion so the FCBA can grow strong and preserve the principles of professionalism which have long been a tradition in the Federal Courts of the Northern District.
