On Monday, August 14, 2017, the NDNY-FCBA held its 13th Annual CLE and Golf Event at the historic Mohawk Golf Club in Schenectady, New York.

The CLE program, titled “Honest Services Fraud After McDonnell v. U.S., 136 S. Ct. 2355 (2016),” was presented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Coombe, Chief of the Criminal Division, and Benjamin Hill from the law firm of Dreyer Boyajian, LLP. Following the CLE program, members enjoyed a barbeque lunch.

Three-dozen FCBA members played in the golf event, which began at 1 p.m. and took the form of a tournament. Half of the players competed in a Captain-and-Crew Division and the other half competed in a Best-Ball Division. Under a blue sky, players followed lush rolling fairways to raised manicured greens across the 6,300-yard, par-71 course, negotiating mature oaks and strategically placed sand traps.

The Captain-and-Crew Division was won by the team of retired Justice Joseph Teresi (of the Albany County Supreme Court), Joseph McCoy (from the law firm of Corrigan, McCoy and Bush PLLC), Paul Devane (from the Law Office of Paul T. Devane) and Dennis Schlenker (from the Law Office of Dennis B. Schlenker) with a score of five under par.

The Best-Ball Division was won by the team of Chief U.S. District Judge Glenn Suddaby, Senior U.S. District Judge Gary Sharpe, Clerk of Court Larry Baerman and retired teacher Tom West with a score of two under par.

The long drive award was won by Matthew Dillon (from the law firm of Carter, Conboy, Case, Blackmore, Maloney & Laird, P.C.) with a 300-yard drive on the 426-yard, par four 1st hole. The closest-to-the-pin award was won by Joe McCoy with a nine-iron shot to within six feet of the pin on the 15th hole. Prizes included bottles of fine wine and sleeves of Titleist Pro V1 golf balls.

Following the golf event, members enjoyed cocktails and a buffet dinner. “The course was in great shape,” reported Don Kinsella, Event Co-Chair and Past President of the FCBA. “And food and drink were in ample supply.”

The FCBA welcomes members to participate in next year’s event in Syracuse.
