The Northern District of New York Federal Court Bar Association is pleased to announce the first of two 225th Anniversary Celebrations of the Northern District of New York as the Mother Court on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the James T. Foley U.S. Courthouse, 445 Broadway, Albany, New York. The date of the first sitting of the Mother Court, the first Court to convene under the new United States Constitution, was Tuesday, November 3, 1789. In celebration of this event and in honor of the Court’s first judge, Judge James R. Duane, a commemorative reception is being held at the Albany Court House.

A 1 1/2 hr. CLE program – “Recent and Historic Decisions of the Northern District of New York,” will be presented by Michael A. Langan, Esq., Law Clerk, Northern District of New York and Edward R. Conan, Bond Schoeneck & King, PLLC. This program will be held from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the First Floor Jury Assembly Room at the James T. Foley U.S. Courthouse.

A catered food and beverage reception will follow in the First Floor Foyer of the James T. Foley U.S. Courthouse from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. During the reception there will be reflections from our honored judiciary in attendance and Pro Bono Award presentations. There will also be a special video presentation of the Duane Mansion and Christ Episcopal Church, the final resting place of Judge Duane and Mary Livingston Duane. The video will include the August 18, 2014 tree dedication at the Duane Mansion, honoring James R. Duane on the 225th Anniversary of the Mother Court.

Our sincere appreciation to James Featherstonhaugh, descendant of James R. Duane, and his wife Barbara Featherstonhaugh for opening up their home, Duane Mansion, for this anniversary celebration!
